Welcome to BANTER; the weekly podcast where we unpack last Sunday's sermon.
Okay, so we're told to "meditate on the law day and night" (Psalm 1:2)...but aren't we "no longer under law, but under grace"? (Romans 6:14) And what does it actually mean to "meditate"? And what parts of the Bible are actually "law"? And why is all of this even important? ...phew! We got our work cut out for us this week!
M&M also chat Valentines Day, horse meds and Bunnings.

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."2 Timothy 3:16-17
Christians all agree Bible reading is important. But there are times when we struggle to read the Bible for lack of time, boredom, or forgetfulness. Reading the Word enables us to experience the transformational power of God-breathed scripture.

Welcome to BANTER; the weekly breakdown of The Centre's Sunday sermon where we dive deeper into the themes and concepts found in the message that week.
This week is an extra special episode as Mitch & Murray launch the inaugral episode of BANTER and explore the intertextual allusions found within Psalm 1. They also chat about pull ups, new borns and what it means to "delight in the law (or "Torah") of the Lord".

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither - whatever they do prospers. (Psalm 1:1-3) Mitch casts his vision over The Centre as we head into 2022. When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”
When we imagine the Christmas nativity scene, we often don't think about murderous kings and fearful refugees. This however is the scene Jesus is born into. No matter how difficult your Christmas is this year, Jesus is stepping into it with you.

Who's the king of your heart? Herod took the lives of his wives, children and infants to maintain his Earthly Kingdom. Jesus gave his life up on a cross so we could inherit his Kingdom of Heaven. How can we be less like Herod and more like Jesus? The Gospel of Matthew tells the weird story of mysterious magicians who follow a prophetic star to place extravagant gifts at the feet of an infant - what in the world is going on here? The irony is, this story would have sounded even weirder to it's first readers... Let's try to unpack it. 18 This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. 19 Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. 20 As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream...(Matthew 1:18-20a) We meet Joseph in chapter 1 of Matthew at a crossroads. What we begin to see, even before Jesus is born, is a beam of hope shining through the cracks of a broken world, a world set to condemn an innocent woman. But God has another plan.
