"19 But Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in God’s place? 20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to keep many people alive." (Genesis 50:19-20)
Do you truly believe God can use ALL things for good?
The story of Joseph follows an inexperienced teenager who matures into a God fearing man. Through valuing his experience, Joseph is able to save his family, the nation of Egypt, and the ancestral line of Jesus Christ. This is the power of using all experiences for good.

"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." (James 1:5)
Mitch and Murray go on a journey through wisdom literature this week, tracing through Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiastes, and also answering once and for all if Song of Songs is wisdom literature or poetry (opinions open to subjectivity). They talk about Solomon's downfall, the value of emotional intelligence and what's (objectively) the best beach in Nelson Bay.

Marcion of Sinope was a prominent figure in the 2nd century church. Today, he is most famous as being a heretic by claiming, among other things, that we are dualistic beings, material and spirit waring against one another. The boys unpack the multiple dangers of this philosophy and how to understand the Biblical view of "denying the flesh"

All of life is worship. Work, play, rest, nothing is off limits for glorifying the Lord. How do we remain mindful of this in a society that tries to seperate body from spirit?

Got a hearty (it had to be done) ep of BANTER for you all this week to keep you warm through the chilly weather. The boys explore the difference in our western understanding of "heart" in contrast to the Ancient Hebrew understanding of the heart, or "lev". They also chat toxic positivity, what a healthy "Fear of the Lord" looks like, and the role of the emotion "disgust" in our walks with Christ.

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-39
We worship a God who wept, got mad and experienced tremendous joy. So why do we often view our emotions as something to suppress? Murray shares on the tension in allowing your emotions to guide you, but not to drive you.

Paul wrote to a church in Corinth who were placing too much emphasis on supernatural spiritual gifts; are we in danger in our modern era of not focusing on them enough? How do we get the balance right? And how can we be more aware of the supernatural in the every day?

"Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. (...) 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work." She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” (Proverbs 31:26-29)

Mitch & Murray delve deeper into the significance of being image-bearers of God as creators, rulers and namers. They explore the dangers of not knowing what your spiritual gifts are, and what it looks like when we make good use of our own God-given strengths.
They also ponder the beauty of ephemeral art, the gravity of names and the value of their wive's fashion sense.
