"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour" -Isaiah 61:1-2
As we enter isolation once again, we are reminded that there is truly nothing new under the sun. Reflecting on this, let's look back to a sermon that Brian shared at the very beginning of COVID back in March 2020, and consider how we can bring the light of Jesus into the darkness.

"For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." -James 2:26
In Ephesians Paul writes that we are saved by faith in Christ and not by our works. But then James writes that faith without works is dead... is the Bible contradicting itself? Thomas unpacks this stunning duality in James 2.

"The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it." - Mark 11:12-14

What's going on here? Does God just hate figs? Or do fig leaves symbolise something greater in God's story?
